Gene Garvin is an American photographer. Born on June 22, 1967, he was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He went to public school and attended LA Harvard City College. After that, he lived in Europe for five years and worked as a model. Being around Cameras and Imagery progressionaly changed his profession from being a model to becoming a photographer. A few years later the most important day was the birth of his son, Obialo.
Peter Lindbergh is his inspiration for imagery. His portrait photographs are in Black and White with an emphasis on shadows. There is also a lot of evoked emotion in his photographs which is also something that Gene reflects in his own Photography.
For his Philosophy, he tries to take personal photos with his subjects. When he shoots he tries to have an conversation with his subjects to spark an emotion. He want's to reflect the human condition in his photographs.
I didn't know much about the world of photography until I met Gene. I remember meeting him at a family party and he really cool. He took pictures for our family photos. I often try to use his methods to take pictures. http://www.genegarvin.com/bio.html
Cover of Deeply rooted
For this picture, I found a tree in my backyard and I tried to get the same angle Gene got for his photograph.
Clouds cover
For this, since the original location was in California. I chose to take a picture of clouds in the sky in A2.
A road less traveled cover
Again, the original picture was taken in California. So I went to downtown Ann Arbor and found the graffiti spot and decided to take some pictures because It looks very familiar to the original image.
